He made his ODI debut back in 2000, where he made few eyebrows turn through his immense potential and power hitting. He has played more than 230 ODI till date with an average of 37. 2 coupled with astounding strike rate of 88.76. He has eleven centuries under his name with string of 121 sixes.
Cricketing world stood and took notice, when he along with Mohammad kaif staged a victory in finals of NatWest trophy in year 2002. It stamped his authority as an integral member in team. Even though he had few problems with his form and couple of knee injuries, which affected his performance intermittently, he was always a name to reckon with in present Indian side.
He has a very different script, when it comes to test matches, where he made his debut in year 2003 against New Zealand and had to face stiff competition to retain his place in side. He has played only 26 test matches till date and he had shuttled many places in batting order, where he has donned even openers’ role in few occasions without much success though. But now after retirement of Ganguly,he is back in thick of things in Indian test side as well.
Things appear to change dramatically ,after T 20 world cup, where he detonated the bowlers with wide range of strokes. His 6 sixes in an over against England is a testimony of what a destructive player he is.
In fact he was in such a astounding form, he sailed India through league matches and semi – finals and won trophy for them. He has played only 10 T 20 matches with a strike rate of about 160’s.
He is also captain of Punjab kings XI in IPL, where he rode them to semi – final stage in last edition of IPL, though he dint produce any spectacular performance in tournament. But Yuvraj big hitting needs no testimonial and the way he treat the bowlers with disdain has been one of the highlights of Yuvraj batting recently.
He is also more than a handy spin bowler, who has scripted impressive performance in ODI, where he has 76 wickets under his name. He is no doubt a kind of player, any International captain would dream to have in his royal XI
