IPL-Lasith Malinga

Lasith Malinga is touted as a fastest bowler in Sri Lanka at present scenario. In fact he managed, to earn a contract in much elusive IPL2 ,for the Mumbai Indians franhcise is a testimony of his potential, which he has showcased in his short and brief career.

He made his test debut against Australia in Darwin in year 2004, after his string of fiery spells for Gale cricket club and Academy XI. In fact he made his ODI debut in same year itself against UAE. He had a huge reputation for his rapid pace and un- orthodox slinging bowling action, which sometimes flustered batsmen.

He has played in 28 tests and 53 ODI matches till then in brief career. He has taken 91 wickets and 79 wickets in test and ODI respectively. He has also represented English county club Kent for a brief while. He has taken two five wicket hauls in his brief test career.

Lasith Malinga bowled few fiery spells in New Zealand, where they even complained to officials to change the colour of his jersey, as they had problems with viewing the ball because of his slinging action. He has a huge reputation for firing Yorkers at death stages of game, as well as for his swing bowling with new ball.

He had a honey moon period during 2007 world cup, which was held in West Indies, where he took 18 wickets in total and was one of the principal reasons to romp Srilanka to finals. He also achieved a very rare feet of taking 4 wickets in consecutive balls, against South Africa in that World Cup.

He had a mixed 2008 season, where he was termed as largely in effective in his two test series in Australia and also subsequent home series against England.

He has played only 8 T 20 international till date and has taken only seven wickets. He has a good average of around 25 in both ODI and T 20, whereas his test average in terms of bowling is bit high tar around 33.20.

He had his problems with injuries, which has curbed his progress greatly. He spent most of his time in 2009, without even able to practise, due to his knee injury, which daunted his international career. But after undergoing some herbal treatment, he returned to Sri lanka side in T 20 match against India recently.At age of 25, Lasith Malinga has plenty in him to offer to Srilanka and to showcase his bowling prowess.
