Sourav Ganguly, is one of the very rare players,who kept the headline writers busy, both through his on – field heroics , as well as off – field activities. He is such an illustrious name in cricketing world, which needs no introduction.

His test debut in Lords, in 1996, where he scored a thumping century marked the beginning of his era, in Indian cricket. He has played 113 test matches since then and has scored 7212 runs . He had an average of well above 42, by the time, when he announced retirement from test cricket.

In ODI, he had a much more impressive statistics to show off, with around 11363 runs under his name in 311 matches of international cricket. He had an average of 41.02, where he scored 21 centuries including 190 sixes.

He was not any less player, when it comes to bowling department and his first five wicket haul against Pakistan Toronto epitomised his artifice in it. In fact he is one of the very few players who holds the record for taking 100 wickets, as well as scored more than 11,000 runs.

Ganguly, was also a man of shrewd cricketing acumen, and his contribution to Indian Cricket as a captain is indisputable, which saw him take the mantle of the most successful captain of India. India triumph over Australia in 2001 test series, under his captaincy and Nat west trophy are few of the memorable events, which transfigured monotonous tone of Indian Cricket. Even with all controversies, he fermented Indian cricket through his sheer aggression and shrewd acumen, which not even his dire critic like Greg Chappel could deny.
