IPL-Harbhajan Singh

He is termed as best off – spinner, India has ever produced. In fact after retirement of Anil Kumble, he has taken mantle of leading spin contingent in both tests and ODI. Harbhajan singh has been the main weapon for India, in test matches played in home, where he had the reputation of running over the opposition, through his fiery spells.

He made his test debut and ODI debut in year 1998, but he dint garner instant success and he was in and out of team. But tide started to slant on his direction, when he solely annihilated mighty Aussies in 2001 series, where he took 32 wickets from those three matches and won man of the series. It was such an inspiring performance, that it gave an impetus to oscillating career and he became a integral part of Indian team. He also took hat – trick in that series.

He has played 75 test matches since then and has taken 321 wickets and also has played 185 ODI, from which he added 207 wickets to his tally. One of the few things, which saw an exemplary refurbishment is his batting skills, which he improved considerably from the way he started and he has scored six half centuries in test matches till now.

Harbhajan Singh had few issues with his controversial bowling action, which was found to be illegal, when he delivers his doosra delivery in some occasions. So he was out of action for few months, to rectify the action.

His career was also marred by controversies, when he was banned for three test matches for racially abusing Symonds in Sydney test match last year, but later it was alleviated to a fine in match fees and also his slapping of his fellow team mate Sreesanth, in his IPL match for Mumbai Indians; later he was suspended from participating in the remaining IPL matches of that edition, affecting the chances of Mumbai Indians greatly.

Many people criticize that Harbhajan performance in overseas is contrastingly different from his powerful performance in home soil. In fact he averages twenty five in home test matches and fourties in overseas matches, clearly indicates, what they are whining about.

He did have couple of five wicket hauls for in 2006 tour to west Indies and his recent six wicket haul in second innings in 1st test match against New Zealand, indicates that he is on verge of performing well even in overseas.

He has astounding five ten wicket hauls and twenty three five wickets in his short career at age of twenty eight; the stage is all set for him to squash plenty of records in mere future.
