Matthew Hayden, name ruffled third place in list of all time greats, which was released recently by ICC. Ones greatness can’t be confined in words and so is Matthew Hayden impact, which can’t be asserted by mere stats and figures. He brought an subtle aura around him, which infused fear to opposition camp.

Matthew Hayden international cricket career ,could be assorted into two contrasting phases. In fact he made his ODI debut in year 1993 and test debut in year 1994 against England. In his early phase as an opener, he had to start his career, with overseas tours like South Africa and England, where he was hugely abortive and dumped out of team.

But like any great player he reposed huge faith in his abilities and with sheer will power, he intruded into Australian team after the time gap of nearly 7 years, in 2001 – 02 test series in India. In fact he gave a hint to impending danger, for all international bowlers by his breathtaking performance in that series, where he scored a record 534 runs in 3 test series.

In tests he hit a deadly combination, with Justin Langer and invariably broke many opening records. In fact they set the perfect platform, for their team to dominate, which was clearly showcased in the results.

Matthew Hayden was conferred array of awards like Wisden cricketer like Allan Border Medal 2002, Test, Wisden cricketer of the year 2003, ICC one day player of year 2007 and One day International Player of the year 2008, which lectures a great deal about his impact as a player.

He has scored 30 test centuries in his 104 matches and 10 centuries in his 163 ODI matches. He also fosters an incredible average of about 50 in test and about 42 in ODI. Losing ashes to England can be said to be one of the low point in his career, but he rectified it by producing a series winning performance in nest ashes, which was held in Australia.

His opening partnership, with Adam Gilchrist was considered as one of the deadly opening pair, after Greenidge and Haynes of West Indies, in dominating the bowling attack of the opposistion.

His T 20 international career is brief, as he retired from cricket in year 2008. He has played some 9 matches, with an average of 51.33. He is one of the IPL contracted players under franchise Chennai Super Kings. Last year, he played only few matches of IPL2, owing to his national commitments, but now he is devoid of any national duty, he is going to be a force to reckon, for Chennai Super Kinds team in this edition of IPL.

If there is a will, there is always a way- Matthew Hayden’s treacherous to illustrious career is a perfect example of the above statement.
